Just two more chapters to go: I figure I'll make each section 20 chapters long, if that works out. This one is sort of a cliffhanger too.

Chapter Nineteen

The baby girl was loved and adored by all of those around her: her proud papa, who cradled her tiny form in his strong arms and rocked her to sleep; her proud mama, who cared for her every need and ran at the sound of her whimper; and, last but most certainly not least, her honorary uncle, Anakin Skywalker, who treated her like she would break if he simply looked at her wrong. He fussed over the infant almost as much as her mother did, and if anyone was ever looking for the boy, they had only to find Ri'ma, and there he would be. Countless afternoons and evenings were spent as he huddled over her cradle, watching her sleeping form, counting her tiny fingers and ties, and gasping if she sighed. The baby had beautiful, downy-soft strawberry-blond hair and greenish-blue eyes with the longest lashes ever beheld by man. Anakin was completely smitten and if he hadn't been so much in love with senator Amidala, Obi-Wan feared he would have wanted to marry his daughter when she was grown.

One fine afternoon, just as spring was coming again, and Anakin was in his normal position leaning over baby Ri'ma's cradle, an alarming sound poured through the open windows and rattled the house. The baby began to wail and Anakin took her into his arms and held her close to him as Obi-Wan rushed outside to see what the ruckus was. Eirtae' came out of the bedroom where she had been napping, tying the tie to her robe.

"Anakin, what's that noise?"

Anakin shrugged and yielded the baby to her mama with a little sigh. "I'm not sure. Obi-Wan went to check it out."

Eirtae' rocked the baby but the noise continued and the infant would not be calmed. Anakin shifted impatiently, plugging his ears against the racket. Eirtae' hurried to shut the windows. After several minutes of waiting, the front door flew open and Obi-Wan came bursting in.

"Eirtae', Anakin, fire! There's fire!"

"Fire?!" Eirtae' panicked. Obi-Wan began packing everything he could as quickly as possible. Eirtae' thrust baby Ri'ma into Anakin's arms and ran off to dress. Anakin held the child to his chest and shushed her, rocking back and forth as best he could on his short legs. Within ten minutes they were outside and Obi-Wan was telling them what to do.

"Anakin, you have to escort Eirtae' and the baby. I can't afford being seen with them. You must take them by the back roads to the temple. I will be waiting with a speeder. Try not to be seen, and hurry."

"Where's the fire?" Eirtae' managed to ask.

"Towards the middle of the city. It's far away now, but it'll spread before we know it. It's not safe being here anymore." Obi-Wan gave Eirtae' a quick kiss and tenderly caressed his sleeping daughter's downy head before disappearing down the street with the luggage. Anakin led Eirtae' on, who held the sleeping infant. After the sound of the alarm, the silence was ghastly, foreboding. Anakin's heart thundered in his chest as they hurried through the quickly-forming crowd. No matter what happened, he would get them to the temple safely. Then they would leave this dangerous place.

[7/11/11] Here's the last chapter. Very Happy Might need tissues...

Chapter Twenty
“Anakin, never forget this precious year we’ve had together.”
The boy, now ten years of age, nodded as Obi-Wan crouched beside him. Tears filled his large blue eyes and he at last could hold them back no longer. Weeping, he hugged his Master’s neck.
“Why must Eirtae’ and Ri’ma go away?” he sobbed.
Obi-Wan felt his heart wrenching in two. His beloved wife and their beautiful baby daughter were going to Naboo. To stay. Yesterday, them all escaping together, had almost cost Obi-Wan being a Jedi when Master Yoda had flown right by their speeder. Thankfully, he was looking the other way, and they weren’t caught. But Obi-Wan and Eirtaa’ had talked it over and decided that it was just too risky, them living there. Now that they had a baby, their secret would not stay one for very long. Eirtae’ could not stay in their apartment forever, and baby Ri’ma looked far too much like her father for curious observers and the keen and intelligent Jedi to put two and two together. Besides, they could not have Ri’ma growing up locked into the apartment, and never seeing sunshine or grass, never smelling flowers. And Courascant was not the most habitable place for a little one to grow up in, even in better times. And now, after the fire... The decision had been made. It was breaking his heart, but he must send his wife and daughter away. For now. Until times were better and their marriage, and Ri’ma, need no longer be kept a secret. For now, for now…
“I loved her.” Anakin sobbed. “I know that I’ll always love her.”
Obi-Wan watched the refugee ship sail off with such precious cargo inside, and he returned his Padawan’s tears. Until they returned, his knew his heart would never heal.

Thanks girls! I'm planning on continuing Ri'ma's story at least through RotS, maybe further! Very Happy

7/12/11

Here's the first chapter of part two! Very Happy

Part Two: The Attack of the Clones and the Mystery Child

Chapter One

Ri’ma Eliana Kenobi yawned and watched for her mother, Eirtae’, to appear in the doorway of their Naboo lakehouse. It was a lonely thing to sit and wait every day, buther mother had to work so that they could eat. After all, with her father away…
Her father. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ri’ma’s father, lived on the planet Courascant, in the Jedi temple. Years ago, when she had been just a little baby, her father had sent her and her mother away, for fear people would find out that he was married. A Jedi must never marry, or even form attachments. Obi-Wan disagreed with the Jedi Code and had married Eirtae’. Ri’ma had been born just a year later, and shortly after her birth, her father had sent them her, to Naboo. Ri’ma wished she could be with him, but she could not. She could not even use his name, but went by a hiding name, Plthoon. Her only consolation was that it sounded sort of Jedi-ish, and reminded her of her father ever time it was spoken.
“Ri’ma, where are you?”
Eirtae’ appeared in the doorway and her nine-year-old daughter ran to embrace her. “Mother, I missed you so!”
“I know, hon, I know…” Eirtae’ held her daughter close and fought back the tears that threatened to spill from her eyelids. After a moment, she held the girl at arms’ length to study her. She was the epitome of beauty, with her small, delicate features, her long eyelashes, her beautiful, soft hair. She was so grown up. Eirtae’ could very much see her husband Obi-Wan in the child- in fact, the more the child grew, the more she favored her father and the less her mother. Even the blond hair the child had once possessed had changed to a darker, redder color like her father’s.
“Ri’ma, it’s time for lunch.” Eirtae’ forced herself to stand up, although her legs were shaking. It had been nine long years since she had seen Obi-Wan. Her heart throbbed for longing to see him. Ri’ma caught the look in her mother’s eyes and smiled sadly. Eirtae’ was so proud of her daughter! She was so smart, so keen, so aware…Obi-Wan would be proud.
Obi-Wan….now that was a name that she had not said, save in whispers to herself or Ri’ma, for a long time…a long time…
***
Chapter Two
“Sorry!” Ri’ma gasped as she crashed into a little boy who was not much older than herself. “I’m soo sorry…” she murmured. Then she froze. He looked so familiar, like someone she’d seen long ago and far away…Hann…Anne…
…Anakin. That was it…the boy looked exactly like Anakin…Skywalker. That was it, Anakin Skywalker! He had Anakin’s dirty-blond hair…Anakin’s big blue eyes…Anakin’s crooked smile…he was even the right age: about ten years old!
“Anakin…?” Ri’ma murmured.
“Excuse me?” The boy smiled kindly at her with warmth in his eyes, so much like the boy she remembered.
“Is your name Anakin Skywalker?” It couldn’t be. After all, she had been a baby when she had met Anakin. Nine years had passed. Nine years since he was ten… Ri’ma counted on her fingers. Anakin Skywalker was nineteen years old now. And he lived far, far away, on some strange planet called Coursacant, not here on Naboo. But maybe he was Anakin’s brother or cousin? Brother. He had to be Anakin’s brother. This boy just looked way too much like Anakin to be anyone else.
“Uh…sorry. I’ve never heard of any Anakin Skywalker.” He smiled apologetically. “My name is Tomvin Lars. What’s your name?”
“Ri’ma Plthoon.”
They smiled at each other for a moment.
“So, who’s this Anakin fellow, and do I look like him?” Tomvin asked, flashing a charming smile Ri’ma’s way. Ri’ma melted inside and grinned back.
“Well, he’s a boy I knew a long time ago, when I lived somewhere else.” she explained. “He was about my age when I was born. I’m nine now.”
“I’m nine too.” Tomvin said with a grin. “Do you want to play with me at my house? I mean, we’re the same age after all.”
“But you don’t even know me…! You just met me!”
Tomvin laughed. “Well, I wish I had met you a lot sooner.”
Ri’ma blushed under his heavy gaze. “Well, I…”
She trailed off as a Naboo boat sailed past them and docked at the rose-covered harbor. Ri’ma’s eyes lit up as the most beautiful woman she had ever seen before got off the boat, helped by tall young man in peasant clothes. The woman had dark, silky hair tucked into a spiraling sea-shell behind her head and a long, flowy, rainbow-colored dress draped about her. The woman caught Ri’ma’s stare and smiled at her. Ri’ma, feeling somehow giddy inside, smiled back. Oh, if only she could ever be that beautiful!!
Something twisted inside of her as she eyed the young man, however. He was tall, with dark blond hair and piercing blue eyes. Down the side of his slim face hung a long, thin braid…A Padawan braid Ri’ma thought with some surprise. He didn’t notice her watching him, however; all of his attentions were focused on the beautiful young woman.
“Whatcha looking at?” Tomvin’s young voice cut through her thoughts.
“One day, I’ll be as beautiful as she is!” Ri’ma burst out. Tomvin eyed her oddly and she colored. “Um…I…”
“I think you’re more beautiful than she ever could be.” Tomvin said quietly. Ri’ma looked at his deep eyes and saw nothing but sincerity in them. Suddenly she colored even more as she realized what he had just said and its implications. He thought she was beautiful.
“Th-thank you.” she managed.
“Hey, want to come to my house? You could meet my dad.”
Ri’ma nodded, only half hearing. She was watching the beautiful woman and the serious young man. They were talking softly together, it seemed, although Ri’ma was much too far away to hear the words. Suddenly the young man got an odd sparkle in his eye and the two kissed, much to Ri’ma’s disgust. She looked away quickly.
“Ew…” she groaned. Tomvin, who had seen it too, laughed. “Maybe when we’re older, we’ll understand.”
“I doubt it…” Ri’ma muttered.”
“So, do you wanna go meet my dad, now that all that’s over with?” Tomvin asked with a laugh.
“Sure.” Ri’ma grinned. “But…why don’t you have a mom?”
“I do. My dad’s here on business and he took me with him. My mom stayed home. I also have an older brother- well, a step-brother. His name is Owen. He’s a lot older than me. My dad used to be married to someone else, and they had Owen. But when the woman, Owen’s mom, died, my dad ended up marrying again. He and my mom had me.” Tomvin explained. “And I think I know a secret.”
“What?” Ri’ma asked, perking up. She absolutely adored secrets.
“I think I had another brother. One time I heard dad and mom talking about him. I think my mom used to be married and had him, then her husband died, just like what happened with my dad. Only, I don’t know why the other brother doesn’t live with us too.” Tomvin looked sad. “I wonder what he looked like, what his personality was…”
Suddenly Ri’ma’s heart stopped in her chest.
“I…I think I can tell you some of that.” she said quietly. She had finally figured out why Tomvin Lars looked so very much like Anakin Skywalker.

Gr, now it's October and I haven't updated this. Lemme see if I have any already written left to post. If not, maybe I can write a chapter- after all, they're pretty short. Smile

*edit* Here's the rest of what I've written. I had three chapters I hadn't posted. Maybe posting these will encourage me to keep writing this story. Smile

Chapter Three
“So... Anakin Skywalker is my brother?” Tomvin was wide-eyed. Ri’ma nodded.
“Yes. He is your half-brother, just like Owen is your half-brother.”
“And her name was Skywalker, before it was Lars! So I was right, my mother was married before, and had a child.”
“Not…not exactly.” Ri’ma wasn’t sure quite how to explain Anakin’s past. Tomvin looked puzzled, so Ri’ma just shook her head.
“Never mind. The important thing is that Anakin is your brother. I bet you’d like to know more about him?”
“Yes, please!” Tomvin said, looked rather anxious to get on with it.
“Well…” Ri’ma struggled hard to figure out how to explain the boy who meant so much to her, yet who she had never really known. “I…well…he’s nineteen now. He was out age when I was a baby. He was the Padawan of my father, Obi-Wan.” Suddenly Ri’ma sucked in air; why was she telling a complete stranger her secrets? She had forgotten! How had this happened?? Her mother would be-
“What’s the matter?” Tomvin asked. Ri’ma just sighed.
“Anyway, he was a Jedi. Well, he was learning to be a Jedi. Maybe he is one now, I don’t know.”
“What’s a Jedi?” Tomvin asked, puzzled once more.
“It’s…well…they fight with glowing sticks of light, and…” How was she to explain it all? The Masters, the Jedi code, the rule of no attachments…?
“I mean…what makes a Jedi special?”
Suddenly it clicked. “The Jedi can use the force. Everyone has some, but the Jedi have learned to use their power, and they help people with it.” Ri’ma explained. “With the force they can move things, or fight…it’s kind of like making wind come out of your hand.”
“That sounds…weird.” Tomvin made a face. “My brother is a Jedi?”
“Yes, but being a Jedi is a good thing!” Ri’ma insisted. “And our brother-”
Just then the young man helped the beautiful woman step back into the boat. He readjusted his peasant shirt and prepared to step in after her, but before he did, he turned and looked directly at Ri’ma. Ri’ma began to smile, as she normally did when she and someone else’s eyes met, but something stopped her. His blue eyes were so dark, so serious…that set mouth…the Padawan braid… Ri’ma choked on air and, sputtering, mind-whirling, she sat down on the ground, hard. Tomvin, startled, quickly moved to help her up. As she rose off of the ground, clinging to Tomvin’s arm, her eyes did not move from off of the young man’s face.
“What is it?” Tomvin asked, confused.
“I…I think that is your brother.” Ri’ma whispered.
“My brother? You’ve got to be kidding! You said my brother lived far away from here! Why on Naboo would he be…on Naboo.”
They giggled, neither knowing exactly why. It wasn’t that funny, not with such a serious situation at hand. Suddenly, Ri’ma just lost it, buckling over with laughter that brought tears to her eyes. Tomvin chuckled, then watched her until she stopped and attempted to breath normally again.
“What is it?” he asked as she wiped her eyes on the sleeve of her dress.
“That…is…the boy…I was just telling you about, your brother! And he’s here, here of all places!” she giggled, then froze, a serious look covering her face, her eyes staring off as though she was seeing something far away and long ago. “I haven’t seen him in nine years! I…I have to see him!”
“Ri’ma, wait-”
But Ri’ma had already torn her shoes off and was in the water, swimming after the boat.
***

Chapter Four
“Ri’ma!” Tomvin yelled again. “Don’t make me”- he pulled of a shoe- “come in there after you! I will”- off with the other shoe- “So help me, I will come after you!” Ri’ma didn’t respond and he jumped into the water. He was a much better swimmer than she was, and he soon caught up with her.
“What are you doing?” she spluttered, treading water and trying not to get a mouthful of it.
“If he really is my brother, I have to meet him!” Tomvin began swimming again and Ri’ma struggled to go more quickly. Tomvin slowed his pace so they could swim together. The boat was not far from them and only lazily floating down the stream, so they were able to catch up to it in no time. When they were a few feet from it, the young man turned around and saw them. A puzzled look fell across his face and the woman leaned over and said something to him. The man responded, and they both stared over the side of the boat as Ri’ma and Tomvin came up to it.
“What on Tattoine??” The young man rolled up his sleeves, leaned over the side of the boat, and fished Ri’ma out of the water. He set her in the middle of the boat, between himself and the beautiful woman, then he helped Tomvin in as well. They sat there, dripping, as the man and woman stared. Ri’ma began to shiver in the cool breeze and, clearing her throat, tried to explain.
“We…thought we might know you.”
The young man frowned. “I’ve never seen either one of you in my life. Why were you swimming out there? Don’t you know that’s dangerous? Are you two all alone?”
Ri’ma was shaking now, too cold to answer. The woman noticed and wrapped a blanket around her shoulders.
“Anakin, this little girl needs to be brought back to shore. She’s freezing. It’s much too cool a morning to go swimming.”
Ri’ma’s heart thundered in her chest. His name was Anakin! It had to be him!
“Okay…” Anakin turned the boat around. “We’ll go back.” He eyed Ri’ma up and down, from her grinning, blue-from-cold face to her wet bare feet. He seemed to be trying to place her. Ri’ma couldn’t speak, so she just grinned stupidly, excitement welling up inside of her. Tomvin’s eyes shifted back and forth from her, the woman, and Anakin. He seemed very confused and said nothing.
When the boat reached shore again, Anakin helped the woman and Ri’ma out, and Tomvin scrambled to shore himself. The woman smiled at Ri’ma and asked her where she lived.
“N-not far.” the girl managed. She was much warmer now, being away from the cool breeze blowing off of the water, and her excitement would no longer wait. “Y-you’re Anakin S-skywalker, aren’t you?”
Anakin looked startled. “Uh…yes, yes I am. How did you know that?”
Ri’ma giggled and threw her arms around him, startling him all the more. Her cheek pressed against his Jedi tunic, she said “I’m Ri’ma Kenobi!” In her excitement she forgot that that name was supposed to be a secret. Gasping, she recovered, then stared up at Anakin’s face, her greenish-blue eyes sparkling and dancing. Anakin’s own blue eyes were cloudy for just half a moment before, looking down into her face, he said
“Ri’ma? Little Ri’ma Kenobi?”
She nodded and he burst out laughing. While the woman and Tomvin looked on, completely baffled, Anakin took Ri’ma up in his arms and swung her around. When he set her down his eyes danced with mischief. “I shouldn’t have done that. I don’t expect it’s proper.” he said with a sly smile. Ri’ma just giggled.
“Ani, who is this?”
Anakin looked at the woman shyly, which Ri’ma found to be quite odd. “She’s an old friend. She was just a baby when I was her age. I helped take care of her, all the time.” Suddenly Anakin looked strangely guilty, as though he had said something he shouldn’t have.
“Ani…did you say her last name is Kenobi?”
Anakin just nodded, still looking guilty. Ri’ma realized that he hadn’t meant to reveal so much about her- she obviously didn’t know that he had told Obi-Wan that his secret was’ safe with him’, but she figured that was true.
“Is she a relation of Obi-Wan’s?”
Anakin quickly changed the subject, turning to Ri’ma. “How do you remember me? You weren’t but a few weeks old when we parted.
“My mother told me all about you, and I pieced that together with my memories.” Ri’ma replied. Then her curious nature came out. “Who is the woman with you?”
Anakin colored up to his forehead. “Her name is Padme’ Amidala. She’s a senator. I was…escorting her here. She needed to come home.”
“Then why did you-” Ri’ma stopped, catching herself. What business was it of hers if Anakin kissed a senator? Still, she wanted to find out. Maybe she could ask him another time, when Padme’ wasn’t with him. She didn’t want to embarrass him. “It’s so good to see you again, Anakin!” she said instead.
Anakin grinned. “You don’t know how pleased I am to see you!” he said, in the most sincere tone. He looked at her with such fondness in those big baby blues of his that Ri’ma felt something turn inside of her. Then he flashed her one of those oh-so-familiar, winning smiles of his and her heart skipped a beat.
“Anakin…” she changed the subject, trying not to blush “This is your brother, Tomvin.”
“My…brother?”
“Half-brother.” Tomvin corrected. “We think.”
“How…what…” Anakin fumbled for words.
“His mother maiden name is Shmi Skywalke….” Ri’ma explained.
“Shmi…Skywalker?” Anakin was shocked. “I’ve been having dreams about her, and-” Padme’ sent him a warning look and he broke off.
“What dreams?” Ri’ma’s curiosity was peaked.
“There a little to scary for me to tell you about. I…I just had some bad dreams about her. I wish very badly to see my mother, but I can’t…” He trailed off and sighed, staring into the distance as though he were seeing those dreams now. Ri’ma stuck her tiny hand into his large one and smiled up at her handsome young uncle.
“It’s okay, Anakin.” she said soothingly. “I’m sure your mother is just fine. Dreams don’t mean anything.”
Anakin looked down at her, a strange heaviness in his blue eyes, and said nothing.
***

Chapter Five
“So…you are my big brother?”
“It appears so.” Anakin smiled at the younger boy. Tomvin was a sweet, spunky lad, and he liked him already.
“Why were you away for so long?” Tomvin asked, tears coming into his big blue eyes. Anakin’s heart softened and he put his arm around the boy’s shoulders.
“Tomvin, I couldn’t come back. I had to train to be a Jedi. I wanted to come back and see my mother so bad, but…I wasn’t able to…I didn’t even know you were born.”
“Really?” Tomvin wiped his eyes and smiled shakily. “I thought you just didn’t care.”
Anakin shook his head. “I wish I had known. I missed so much while I was gone…not that knowing would have changed anything. Jedi aren’t allowed to do what they like, or visit the places you like, or…” His voice shook “Be with the people that I love.” Clearing his throat, he went on. “I’m not allowed to love. well, I mean, attachment and possession are forbidden. There is only compassion. A Jedi…a Jedi isn’t allowed to marry.”
“Then I’m glad that I’m not a Jedi.” Tomvin confessed, staring off, deep in thought.
“It’s terrible…” Anakin confessed.
“You…want to marry Padme, don’t you?” Tomvin asked. Anakin’s eyes widened.
“How did you…”
“It could only be her. We- Ri’ma and I- we….saw you…kiss.” Tomvin could barely speak such a romantic word. Anakin blinked, then burst out laughing.
“Tomvin, I…how did you-? You guys!” He bent over, laughing so hard his stomach hurt. Tomvin watched, stunned. At last Anakin looked up and wiped his eyes.
“I’m sorry, it’s really not funny. But it’s ironic. We both love each other- I think- and yet…” He stared off. “We aren’t allowed to marry each other because of stupid rules…”
“Rules aren’t stupid.” Tomvin insisted. “They are to help people, mostly.”
“Not these rules. These rules are stupid. Why can’t a Jedi marry? Love is a wonderful thing, and it all goes to waste…”
Tomvin sighed. “I don’t know how you feel,” he confessed “and I probably never will.”

Aw, thank you! Smile I had a busy day today but tomorrow is Sunday, so maybe I could write some then. I could do a chapter a day as I did at one point in time...I could try, anyway. Smile It's really not that hard, it's more starting on it, I think, getting back into it... Smile

Yay, more at last! Very Happy

Chapter Six

"So you actually used to live here?" Ri'ma asked, smiling at 'Miss Padme' as she had taken to calling the beautiful woman. 'Padme' was simply too casual.
"Yes." Padme replied with a smile. "Anakin was bringing me home because- I'm in some danger concerning my work. I'll be safe here."
Ri'ma watched Anakin and Tomvin walk by, arms around each other, and smiled to herself before turning back to Padme.
"Well, I'm glad you came back, since you'll be safe. And since you brought my Anakin with you."
"Your Anakin?" Padme asked, a gigle in her voice. Ri'ma colored.
"Uh...I mean..."
Padme was looking off, a dreamy look in her eyes.
"Miss Padme? What are you thinking about?" Ri'ma asked cusiously.
"Huh?" Padme snapped out of her daze. "I, uh...I suppose I'm...thinking about...Anakin."
Ri'ma started to ask her why, then stopped short. Suddenly she remembered...the kiss...
"Anakin loves you, and you love him." It was a statement, not a question. Padme turned as red as a Naboo Calypsus flower and turned away. Ri'ma was sure she had gone too far.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry, or spy on you, or anything of the sort. It's just...when two people kiss..."
"You saw that??" Padme demanded.
"Y-yes." Ri'ma stuttered, feeling sick. "I'm sorry. I couldn't help it. I was...watching you when it happened. I mean, I could have helped watching you, bnut I couldn't help but see the kiss, since I was watching you..."
Padme burst into laughter and Ri'ma just stared, truly puzzled. When Padme caught her breath she smiled.
"Yes, Ri'ma, we do love each other. But you must keep it a secret. Nothing will ever come of it, anyway; Jedi aren't allowed to marry."
"Are senators?" Ri'ma asked.
Padme nodded. "Yes, they are. But if they are pregnant, they might have to take time off from their senatorial duties. So they often don't marry. I mean, they do marry, but they often quit shortly after, or at least when the children start to come."
Ri'ma nodded. "So you two can never be truly happy..." she sighed.
"I wouldn't say that exactly..." said Padme, plucking a petal from a rose that blossomed near them.
"Well, what would you say about it?" Ri'ma asked.
Padme couldn't answer.

Chapter Seven

It was the eve of the day and the newfound family were parting ways. Well, they weren't really family of course, but Ri'ma thought they were. After all, Anakin and Tomvin were brothers. Anakin was practically Obi-Wan brother, which made him practically Ri'ma's uncle, and Padme and Anakin would be husband and wife, Ri'ma was sure, if it wasn't for the Jedi attachment rule. But, whatever would happen for them, it would no longer involve Tomvin and Ri'ma for the present. Everyone said their goodbyes and Anakin escorted Padme back to her lakehouse while Tomvin escorted Ri'ma to her own home.

Upon reaching her house, Ri'ma paused in the doorway. Her mother was cooking dinner, from the sounds of it; here a pot banging into a pan accidentally, there a murmur as she tasted from the spoon; the sound of the cupboards as she reached for more spices and the slow gurgle-gurgle of the boiling soup which they always had on this day of the week. Tomvin was standing outside, watching her, waiting for her to disappear inside, upon which he would turn towards his own home. Ri'ma, however, would not move. She could not, as she much desired to, introduce Tomvin to her mother; no, that would raise too many questions, and Ri'ma had agreed not to tell anyone about Anakin and Padme. However, she couldn't just say 'goodbye' and let Tomvin walk off in the chilly Naboo-night air alone. At last she turned, he raised an eyebrow; she rushed back out to meet him.

"Oh, Tomvin, how can I ever say goodbye? Even though we were but strangers this morning, I..." She was surprised; her speech had turned eloquent in her mourning.

"I'll be here for two more days at least, and then..." He trailed off.

"Oh, Tomvin, if only you could stay..."

"Visit me on Tattoine, that's all."

"I thought you told me it was a horrible place." Ri'ma teased.

Tomvin smirked. "Sandy, dry. Nothing like this place at all..."

"I think sand can be lovely. There's sand on the beach where I play every weekend with my mother." Ri'ma countered.

"Oh, but that sand isn't like the sand on Tattoine. On Tattoine, it's course, and rough, and gets into everything, including your eyes..." He stopped; her eyes were glossy. "Is there sand in your eyes just now?" he asked tenderly.

Ri'ma smiled through her tears. "No, of course not." She found that a giggle escaped her lips. "But you must know, surely you must know..."

Tomvin watched her. "What?"

"I-I love you, you're like a brother to me! I wish- I wish- we could be best friends."

"We are best friends." he told her. "We'll always be best friends."

She smiled and waved goodbye. Tomvin waved as well and departed towards his own house. Ri'ma watched him go, and then retired. Tomvin was right; they were best friends, already. And she knew they'd always be.
